Abstract

This study examines the role of KH. Usman Dhomiri in the struggle for Indonesian independence in the city of Cimahi, West Java, from 1930 to 1950. The research aims to explore Dhomiri’s life background and his role in the independence struggle at the local level. It employs the historical method, comprising four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Primary and secondary sources are drawn from archives, interviews, books, journals, and relevant academic works. The findings reveal that KH. Usman Dhomiri served not only as a religious scholar and disseminator of the Tijaniyah tarekat, but also as a struggle leader who integrated religious preaching with anti-colonial resistance. Through his religious gatherings, the establishment of the Baiturrohmah Mosque, and the formation of the Hizbullah and Fisabilillah militias, Dhomiri built a socio-religious network that became the foundation of Cimahi’s struggle against Dutch and Allied forces. The study concludes that Dhomiri’s role reflects the integration of religious leadership, social engagement, and physical struggle in advancing Indonesian independence at the local level, particularly in Cimahi.
