History of Islamic Civilization and the Perspective of Islamization in the Archipelago

The History of Islamic Civilization is a study that discusses the development of the life of Muslims from the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW to the modern era. This study not only examines religious aspects, but also includes social, cultural, political, educational, and scientific developments that emerged from Islamic civilization. This study aims to describe the concepts of history, civilization, and Islam and explain the process of the entry and development of Islam in Indonesia along with the various theories that underlie it. The method used in this study is library research by collecting and analyzing various sources of literature in the form of books, journals, scientific articles, and relevant documents. The results of the study indicate that Islamic civilization is built on three main foundations: faith, knowledge, and deeds, which are interrelated in shaping the progress of Muslims. The entry of Islam into Indonesia took place gradually through trade routes, da'wah, and socio-cultural interactions involving Muslim traders from Arabia, Persia, India, and China. The process of Islamization in the archipelago gave rise to various theories, namely the Mecca Theory, the Gujarat Theory, the Persian Theory, and the Chinese Theory. Furthermore, the development of Islamic culture in Indonesia faces challenges in the form of cultural diversity, the influence of globalization, and technological advancements that can impact Islamic values. Therefore, education through mosques, prayer rooms, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and formal educational institutions is a crucial means of maintaining, preserving, and developing Islamic culture to ensure its relevance to current developments.
