From Glamping Management to Regenerative Tourist Experience: Evidence from Bali
Main Article Content
Abstract
The rapid growth of glamping as a premium nature-based accommodation model has expanded tourism experience beyond conventional camping and luxury hospitality. However, previous studies have predominantly examined glamping in terms of service quality, comfort, motivation, and memorable experiences, while limited empirical evidence explains how glamping management can generate a regenerative tourist experience. Addressing this gap, this study investigates the pathway from Glamping Regenerative Management (GRM) to Regenerative Tourist Experience (TRE) through Regenerative Tourism Mechanisms (RTM) and Tourist Environmental Orientation (TEO). Drawing on regenerative tourism theory, living systems thinking, and environmental orientation theory, this study conceptualizes glamping as a socio-ecological platform that may activate human-nature reconnection, ecological learning, place-based engagement, and reflective environmental awareness. A quantitative explanatory design was employed using survey data from 250 tourists who experienced selected glamping destinations in Bali. Data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling with SmartPLS 4. The findings show that GRM has a significant positive effect on RTM, RTM strongly influences TEO, and TEO significantly enhances TRE. GRM also has a direct significant effect on TRE, but its direct effect on TEO is not significant. The indirect effect analysis confirms that RTM and TEO function as serial mediators in the relationship between GRM and TRE. These results indicate that regenerative tourist experience is not produced merely by management practices but through experiential mechanisms that activate tourists' environmental orientation. The study contributes to regenerative tourism literature by empirically validating a regenerative glamping pathway and provides practical implications for glamping operators and destination managers seeking to design nature-based accommodation that fosters ecological awareness, meaningful experience, and responsible tourist behavior.
