Abstract

Penelitian ini mempunyai dua tujuan yaitu pertama untuk mengetahui islamisasi di Jawa  dan kedua untuk mengetahui peran habaib di Betawi dalam proses islamisasi pada abad ke 70. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian sejarah dengan tahapan kerja pengumpulan data (heuristik), verifikasi (kritik), penafsiran (interpretasi) dan penulisan (historiografi). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Islamisasi di Betawi selalu dikaitkan dengan awal penaklukan Betawi oleh Fatahilah sekitar tahun 1527 M. Akan Tetapi beberapa pengamat belakangan mengkritisi teori tersebut dan menyatakan bahwa Islamisasi di Betawi lebih tepat bila dikaitkan dengan ulama seperti Syekh Quro (Karawang), Datuk Ibrahim (Condet), Datu Biru (Jatinegara), Dato Tonggara (Cililitan), Mak Datu Tanjung Kait (Tangerang), Kumpi Datu (Depok). Dari penelitian ini juga diketahui bahwa pada abad ke 20 penyebaran dakwah Islam  di Jawa  semakin pesat dengan kedatangan para habaib dari Hadramaut. Eksistensi habaib di Jawa ini pada khirnya melahirkan jaringan habaib yang dibentuk baik secara geneologi, tradisi, organisasi, maupun peran dati tarekat alawiyah termasuk di dalamnya jaringan Rabithah alawiyah yang berdiri pada awal abad ke 20..
