About the Journal

Wawasan: Jurnal Ilmiah Agama dan Sosial Budaya (Journal of Religious and Socio-Cultural Studies) is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal devoted to the study of religion in relation to public life and social transformation. The journal examines how religious beliefs, practices, institutions, authorities, identities, and material expressions interact with changing social, political, cultural, technological, and environmental conditions.

Wawasan provides an academic forum for theoretically informed and empirically grounded scholarship that investigates religion as a dynamic social force rather than as an isolated system of belief. It is particularly interested in how religion is lived, mediated, governed, negotiated, contested, and transformed within contemporary societies.

The journal gives particular attention to Southeast Asia and the wider Global South, while welcoming comparative, transregional, and globally relevant studies from other parts of the world. Research based on local or national cases is encouraged when it contributes to broader theoretical, comparative, or international scholarly debates.

Wawasan welcomes contributions from religious studies and related disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, political science, cultural studies, media and communication studies, gender studies, environmental humanities, history, philosophy, and other relevant fields in the humanities and social sciences.

Through this interdisciplinary orientation, Wawasan seeks to advance international scholarly conversations on the changing place of religion in contemporary public life.
