Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

General Information

Socio Politica: Jurnal Ilmiah Jurusan Sosiologi welcomes original scholarly manuscripts that contribute to sociological, social, political, cultural, religious, and interdisciplinary studies. Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published or be under consideration by any other journal or publisher.

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Research Articles

  • Conceptual Articles

  • Literature Review Articles

  • Book Reviews

All submissions undergo editorial screening and a double-blind peer-review process.


Manuscript Requirements

Language

Manuscripts may be written in:

  • English


Length and Format

  • Manuscript length: approximately 5,000–6,000 words (excluding abstract, references, tables, and figures).

  • Font: Garamond

  • Main text: 12 pt

  • Section headings: 14 pt, bold

  • Line spacing: 1.5

  • Text alignment: Justified

  • Manuscript file format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)

Authors are required to use the journal manuscript template.


Manuscript Structure

Title

The title should clearly reflect the main issue, concept, phenomenon, or argument discussed in the manuscript.

Requirements:

  • Maximum 20 words

  • Garamond 14 pt, bold

  • Concise and informative


Abstract

The abstract should be written in a single paragraph and contain approximately 150–200 words.

The abstract should briefly explain:

  • Research background

  • Research objectives

  • Research methods

  • Main findings

  • Scholarly contribution

Avoid citations, abbreviations, and detailed statistical information.


Keywords

Provide 4–5 keywords representing the principal concepts discussed in the article.

Keywords should be separated by commas.


1. Introduction

The Introduction should:

  • Explain the significance of the research topic;

  • Present relevant social, political, cultural, religious, or contemporary contexts;

  • Review major literature and previous studies;

  • Identify conceptual, empirical, methodological, or contextual research gaps;

  • Demonstrate the originality and significance of the study;

  • Clearly state the research objectives, research questions, arguments, or hypotheses where applicable.

The Introduction should move logically from broad discussions to the specific focus of the article.


2. Theoretical Framework

This section should explain:

  • Theories and concepts used in the study;

  • Key analytical categories and variables;

  • Relevant scholarly debates;

  • The theoretical position adopted by the author(s);

  • The analytical framework used to interpret the findings.

The theoretical discussion should be directly related to the research objectives and analysis.


3. Research Method

Authors should clearly explain:

  • Research design and methodological approach;

  • Research setting, case selection, or field site;

  • Sources of data;

  • Data collection techniques;

  • Data analysis procedures;

  • Ethical considerations (where applicable);

  • Strategies to ensure validity, reliability, trustworthiness, or research rigor.

The methodology section should demonstrate the suitability of the chosen methods for addressing the research questions.


4. Results and Discussion

Results and Discussion must be integrated into a single section.

Authors are expected to:

  • Present findings systematically;

  • Analyze findings using the selected theoretical framework;

  • Relate findings to existing literature;

  • Explain similarities, differences, confirmations, or contradictions with previous studies;

  • Demonstrate the originality and scholarly contribution of the study;

  • Discuss broader implications for society, policy, religion, culture, politics, or other relevant fields.

The journal strongly encourages analytical and critical discussions rather than descriptive reporting.

Subheadings may be used when necessary.


Tables and Figures

Tables

  • Number tables consecutively (Table 1, Table 2, etc.).

  • Table titles should be placed above the table.

  • Source information should be placed below the table.

  • Tables must be editable and not submitted as image files.

Figures

Figures include:

  • Graphs

  • Charts

  • Maps

  • Diagrams

  • Photographs

  • Conceptual models

Requirements:

  • Number figures consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.).

  • Figure captions should be placed below the figure.

  • Source information should be provided where applicable.

  • Figures must be clear and of high resolution.

All tables and figures must be cited and discussed within the main text.


5. Conclusions

The Conclusion should:

  • Revisit the research objectives and questions;

  • Summarize the main findings;

  • Explain theoretical, methodological, and practical implications;

  • Highlight scholarly contributions;

  • Identify limitations where appropriate;

  • Provide recommendations for future research.

Authors should avoid introducing new data or new arguments in the conclusion.


References

All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

References must:

  • Follow APA Style (7th Edition);

  • Prioritize recent and relevant scholarly publications;

  • Include complete bibliographic information;

  • Include DOI where available.

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.


Citation Style

Parenthetical Citation

Single author:

(Berger, 1990)

Two authors:

(Hervieu-Léger & McGuire, 2021)

Three or more authors:

(Pratiwi et al., 2023)

Direct quotation:

(Berger, 1990, p. 45)

Narrative Citation

According to Casanova (2011), secularization should be understood as a multidimensional process.


Submission Process

Authors must submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system.

Before submission, authors should ensure that:

  • The manuscript follows the journal template;

  • The manuscript complies with APA 7th Edition;

  • The manuscript has not been published elsewhere;

  • All author information is complete and accurate;

  • The manuscript is free from plagiarism.

Submitted manuscripts will undergo editorial screening followed by a double-blind peer-review process.

Socio Politica: Jurnal Ilmiah Jurusan Sosiologi follows internationally recognized standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. Authors are expected to uphold principles of originality, transparency, proper citation, and responsible research conduct throughout the publication process.
