This study analyzes the transformation and resilience of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in the digital era, focusing on the formation of religious identity among Generation Z. The rapid technological disruption has compelled pesantren to adapt to new learning patterns, communication modes, and the evolving social characteristics of digitally native students. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study examines the socio-religious adaptation of pesantren in integrating the values of ta’dib (education of adab and moral refinement) with digital pedagogy, and its implications for shaping the religious identity of contemporary santri. The findings reveal that pesantren have demonstrated adaptive transformation without compromising their traditional Islamic foundation. Technology-based learning practices, such as digital halaqah and online mentoring, have expanded the scope of spiritual education and fostered more dialogical relationships between kyai (religious teachers) and students. In terms of identity construction, Generation Z santri develop a hybrid religiosity that synthesizes traditional Islamic values with digital modernity. This synthesis produces a new generation of Muslims who are moderate, reflective, and capable of articulating Islamic spirituality within digital spaces in a contextual and ethical manner. This study concludes that the resilience of pesantren lies not merely in their ability to survive, but in their capacity to renew themselves and reaffirm their socio-religious function as centers for moral and spiritual formation relevant to the digital age.
