Abstract

The global environmental crisis demands a robust ethical and legal foundation, including from the Islamic fiqh tradition. This study analyzes traditional fiqh norms on the utilization and protection of nature, explains the dialectic between the prohibition of destruction and the need for resource use, and formulates an integrative ecological fiqh framework based on maqashid al-shari'ah as a basis for reconstructing the environmental da'wah movement. Using a library research method with normative-fiqh and maqashidi analysis, the study finds that classical fiqh already provides conceptual instruments such as himā, harīm, and the maxim lā ḍarar wa lā ḍirār to limit resource exploitation. The maqashid approach extends this framework by positioning the environment within ḥifẓ al-nafs and ḥifẓ al-māl, making environmental conservation a darūriyyāt necessity. This framework must further be translated by preachers and da'wah institutions into an integrative environmental da'wah movement, encompassing verbal da'wah, exemplary action, fatwa, and institutional policy.
