Author Fees and Optional Expedited Review

Religious: Jurnal Studi Agama-Agama dan Lintas Budaya provides transparent information about its publication charges and optional services. Manuscript submission and assessment through the regular review track are free of charge.

Publication charges become payable only after final acceptance. An optional expedited review service is available subject to prior approval and separate terms. Payment does not guarantee acceptance or influence the scholarly assessment of a manuscript.

1. Regular Submission and Publication Fees

Article Submission Fee: Free — IDR 0 / USD 0. No separate fee is charged for submission, initial screening, peer review, or editorial assessment through the regular track. No Article Publication Fee is payable for a rejected manuscript.

Following final acceptance, the Article Publication Fee is:

• Indonesia-based corresponding authors: IDR 4,000,000 per article.
• Corresponding authors based outside Indonesia: USD 250 per article.

The fee category is determined by the country of the corresponding author’s primary institutional affiliation at submission. This rule also applies to multinational author teams. Authors without an institutional affiliation should contact the editorial office to confirm their category before submitting.

The Article Publication Fee supports publishing operations, including editorial administration, copyediting, typesetting, metadata preparation, online dissemination, and digital preservation arrangements. It is not a payment for acceptance or a favourable review.

Authors receive an official invoice after final acceptance. Publication proceeds after payment or a written alternative arrangement has been approved.

2. Optional Expedited Review

Expedited Review, also referred to as Fast Track Review, is an optional service for accelerated coordination of editorial assessment and peer review. It is not applied automatically and is not required for a manuscript to receive full consideration.

Authors may submit a request through the Fast Track Review Request Form. Submitting a request is free and does not create an obligation to pay.

Requests are assessed on the manuscript’s suitability for consideration, completeness, subject-specific reviewer availability, and the journal’s capacity to provide a meaningful expedited service. Approval concerns the service arrangement only; it is not provisional acceptance of the article.

Before payment, the editorial office will provide written confirmation specifying:

• The activities covered by the expedited service.
• The proposed target for the first editorial decision and when that period begins.
• Dependencies or exclusions, including time needed for author revisions.
• The separate service fee and any subsequent publication charge.
• The applicable cancellation and refund terms.

No service fee will be requested until the journal has confirmed that it can offer the service and the author has agreed to the written terms. If the request is declined, the manuscript may continue through the regular track without an expedited review fee.

The service fee is IDR 4,000,000 for Indonesia-based corresponding authors or USD 250 for corresponding authors based outside Indonesia. It is separate from the Article Publication Fee.

A first decision may be rejection or a request for revision. Expedited review does not guarantee acceptance, a favourable report, publication by a particular date, or placement in a particular issue.

3. Fee Summary

If an expedited manuscript is rejected, no Article Publication Fee is payable. The treatment of the expedited service fee depends on whether the agreed service was delivered, as explained below.

4. Editorial Independence

Regular and expedited manuscripts are subject to the same double-blind review model, minimum number of independent reviewers, assessment criteria, revision requirements, and publication ethics policies.

• Payment must not influence reviewer recommendations or editorial decisions.
• Expedited processing must not bypass substantive review or shorten it to a period inadequate for proper assessment.
• Reviewer or editor remuneration, where applicable, must not depend on recommending acceptance.
• Authors who choose the regular track must not be pressured to purchase an additional service.
• Regular submissions must continue to be handled according to the journal’s published review policy.

Fee administration is managed separately from decisions about scholarly merit. Financial information is not provided to reviewers, and potential financial conflicts affecting editorial decision-makers must be disclosed and managed.

Final publication timing depends on completed revisions, acceptance, production readiness, and the journal’s publication schedule. Neither payment reserves an issue position nor permits insertion into a completed back issue.

5. Payment, Cancellation, and Refunds

Payments must follow an official invoice and be made only through the journal’s authorised institutional payment channel. Authors must not make payments directly to individual editors or reviewers. Payment instructions and deadlines will be stated on the invoice.

• No fee is charged for requesting expedited review.
• If an approved expedited service is cancelled before it begins, any prepaid service fee will be refunded.
• If the journal cannot provide the agreed service, it will offer a revised arrangement for the author’s agreement or a refund for the undelivered service.
• Once the agreed expedited service has been delivered, rejection alone does not entitle the author to a refund of that service fee.
• Cancellation after work has begun will be assessed against the services actually delivered, with a written explanation of any retained amount.
• Duplicate or erroneous payments will be refunded following verification.

Any publication-fee refund request arising before publication will be assessed according to the reason for cancellation and the production work already completed. The journal will provide a written explanation of its decision. Post-publication corrections or retractions do not automatically create or extinguish a refund entitlement; the circumstances will be assessed individually.

No additional journal charge will be imposed without prior disclosure and the author’s agreement. Any applicable tax or third-party transfer charge must be identified before payment where known.

6. Financial Assistance and Enquiries

Authors experiencing financial hardship may contact the editorial office to request consideration of a publication-fee reduction or payment arrangement. Requests should explain the financial circumstances and available institutional or research funding.

Assistance is subject to available resources and independent administrative assessment; it is not automatic. The outcome will be communicated in writing and must not affect the scholarly decision on the manuscript. Authors may always choose the regular review track without purchasing expedited review.
