Publication Ethics
Candidate: Jurnal Sains Politik (e-ISSN 2685-6670) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process—including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, peer reviewers, and the publisher. Our ethical standards are guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in Candidate: Jurnal Sains Politik represents an important contribution to the advancement of political science knowledge. Peer-reviewed articles form the foundation of a respected and coherent academic body of work and reflect the quality and credibility of research conducted by authors and their institutions. Therefore, all parties involved in the publishing process must adhere to the highest ethical standards.
The Department of Political Science, FISIP, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, as the publisher of Candidate, is committed to maintaining editorial independence and ensuring that commercial interests do not influence editorial decisions. The Editorial Board collaborates with other journals and organizations when necessary to uphold the integrity of the publication process.
Publication Decisions
The Editor-in-Chief holds full authority in deciding which manuscripts will be published in Candidate. Decisions are based on the relevance, originality, and contribution of the manuscript to the field of political science. The Editor-in-Chief may consult with members of the Editorial Board and peer reviewers while strictly adhering to ethical and legal standards, including those concerning defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
Fair Play
Manuscripts are evaluated based solely on their intellectual merit, without discrimination based on the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, nationality, or political views.
Confidentiality
The editorial team must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Manuscripts should only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher when necessary.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without explicit written consent from the author.
Duties of Reviewers
- Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and provide constructive feedback to improve the manuscript.
- Promptness: Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete the review on time must inform the editor promptly and decline the review request.
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents and must not be discussed or shared with others without editor authorization.
- Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be objective, offering clear and constructive criticism without personal attacks.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers must identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and report any substantial similarities to other works.
- Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and avoid using privileged information gained through the review process for personal advantage.
Duties of Authors
- Reporting Standards: Authors must present accurate and objective accounts of their research. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.
- Data Access and Retention: Authors should be prepared to provide raw data for editorial review if requested and must retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original. Proper citation and acknowledgment of the work of others must always be provided. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.
- Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of all sources and influential work that has shaped the research must be made.
- Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the work. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript.
- Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy after publication, they must immediately notify the editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.
