About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Al-Bayan: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir is a biannual, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing scholarly research on the Qur'an and its interpretation. It focuses on various aspects of Qur'anic studies, including the sciences of the Qur'an, the phenomenon of the Living Qur'an, and the methodological approaches to Qur'an and Tafsir studies. The journal also explores Qur'anic scholarship across different regions, such as the Middle East, the West, and the Archipelago, highlighting diverse perspectives and contemporary developments in the field.
Peer Review Process
After passing the initial screening, the editor will assign the manuscript to at least two independent experts for peer review. This journal follows a double-blind peer-review system, where the authors' identities remain anonymous to the reviewers. This ensures the reviewers’ integrity when evaluating the submitted articles. The editor will invite reviewers who are experts in the field, including those recommended by the Editor-in-Chief. Invited reviewers may come from the Editorial Board or other journal reviewers.
To maintain objectivity, reviewers with conflicts of interest are prohibited from reviewing the manuscript. The following situations are considered conflicts of interest and must be avoided:
- A reviewer must not have co-authored a publication with any of the authors in the past three years.
- A reviewer must not work or collaborate with the institution affiliated with the author(s).
- A reviewer must not be a current or former doctoral advisor of the author, nor vice versa.
- A reviewer must not receive professional or personal benefits from the review outcome.
- A reviewer must not have a personal relationship with the author, such as family ties or close friendships.
- A reviewer must not have a financial interest, whether directly or indirectly, related to the manuscript being reviewed.
- A reviewer must not have a history of academic or professional conflicts with any of the authors that could affect their objectivity.
- A reviewer must not have been a co-investigator or involved in the same research project as any of the authors in the past five years.
- A reviewer must not have a vested interest in the publication of the manuscript’s findings, especially if the results could benefit or harm the reviewer’s ongoing research.
- A reviewer must not have been involved in the writing, editing, or direct consultation of the manuscript before its submission for peer review.
The peer-review process takes a maximum of five (5) weeks.
Publication Frequency
Al-Bayan: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir is published twice a year (June and December) by the Qur'anic and Tafsir Studies Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin, State Islamic University Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that making research freely available to the public fosters a greater global exchange of knowledge.
As an open-access journal, all content is freely accessible without charge to users or institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full-text articles in this journal without prior permission from the publisher or author. This policy aligns with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative.

Al-Bayan: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir is published by the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin, State Islamic University Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This journal is published biannually, in June and December.

Al-Bayan: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir is a biannual, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly studies on the Qur’an from a broad range of academic perspectives. The journal reflects the diversity of approaches in Qur’anic studies while maintaining rigorous academic standards.
Aligned with the vision of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program, this journal is committed to upholding ethical standards at every stage of the publication process. In this regard, we adhere to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
Publication Ethics for Journal Editors
- Editorial Responsibility: Editors are accountable for all content published in the journal, ensuring it aligns with academic integrity and ethical standards, in consultation with the editorial board.
- Content Quality and Corrections: Editors must evaluate the quality of submitted materials and should be willing to issue corrections or clarifications when necessary.
- Legal Compliance: Editors must ensure adherence to legal requirements, particularly those related to defamation, intellectual property, and plagiarism.
- Fair and Impartial Decision-Making: Editors must maintain fairness and objectivity in their decisions, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political views.
- Confidentiality: Editorial team members must not disclose any information related to submitted articles without the author's explicit consent.
- Integrity in Handling Submissions: Editors must promptly return any rejected articles and ensure they are not used for personal purposes.
- Guidance for Authors and Reviewers: Editors should provide clear instructions to authors and reviewers regarding expectations and responsibilities in the publication process.

Publication Ethics For Reviewers
Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions on submitted papers/articles
- Reviewer is responsible for the review recommendations
- Review of paper is done objectively and supported by clear arguments.
- A reviewer is responsible for quotes, references, and plagiarism for articles reviewed.
- Reviewer keeps the confidentiality of information for personal gain.
The Responsibilities of author
- The author must present his or her article of thought or research, honestly, and without plagiarism, and data manipulation.
- The author is responsible for the submitted confirmation of the articles that have been written.
- The author must comply with the requirements of the publication in the form of originality of the work, not plagiarism, and the paper/article has not been published in other journals or publications.
- The author points out the references of the cited opinions and works of others
- The author writes the paper or article ethically, honestly and responsibly, by applicable scientific authorship rules.
- Authors are prohibited from sending/publishing the same article in more than one journal or publication.
- The author does not object if the paper goes through editing without changing the substance or basic idea of writing.
The Responsibilities of Publisher
The Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program, as the publisher of Al-Bayan: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir, is responsible for overseeing the publication process, including editing, peer review, and layout, in accordance with the standards of scientific journal publishing.
As the publisher, the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program is committed to ensuring academic freedom for editors and reviewers in performing their duties. Additionally, the publisher is responsible for maintaining privacy, protecting intellectual property and copyright, and upholding editorial independence.
