Peer Review Process

JISPO operates a double-blind peer review to ensure fairness, rigor, and integrity. Every submission is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers in the field to assess originality, methodological soundness, and contribution to knowledge on Indonesian social and political studies.

  1. Submission
The corresponding author submits the manuscript via JISPO’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) portal, using the required template and checklists. JISPO accepts English-language manuscripts only.
  2. Editorial Office Screening
An initial desk check verifies fit with JISPO’s focus and scope, completeness against Author Guidelines, and baseline methodological quality. All manuscripts undergo a similarity check (Turnitin or equivalent) prior to external review.
  3. Editor-in-Chief Appraisal
The Editor-in-Chief (or delegated senior editor) assesses novelty, relevance, and significance. Manuscripts that do not meet JISPO’s standards may receive a desk rejection at this stage.
  4. Reviewer Selection & Invitation
A handling editor invites qualified reviewers based on subject expertise and absence of conflicts of interest. JISPO maintains double-blind conditions: authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout the process.
  5. Reviewer Acceptance
Invited reviewers evaluate suitability with regard to expertise, potential conflicts, and availability, then accept or decline. When declining, reviewers may suggest alternative experts.
  6. Review Conduct
Reviewers provide a structured, evidence-based report and a recommendation: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. Reviews focus on clarity of research questions, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, interpretive accuracy, and contribution to the field.
  7. Editorial Synthesis & Decision
The Editor-in-Chief and handling editor consider all reviews to reach a decision. If reviews diverge substantially, an additional review may be solicited.
  8. Decision Communication
The editorial office sends the decision with anonymized reviewer comments and instructions for revision where applicable. Reviewers are notified of the outcome.
  9. Revisions, Acceptance & Production
For revisions, authors submit a tracked-changes manuscript and a detailed response-to-reviewers. Minor revisions may be verified by the handling editor; major revisions typically return to reviewers. Upon acceptance, the paper proceeds to copy-editing, proofreading, and typesetting, and a Crossref DOI is assigned. Final articles are published open access on the JISPO website.
