Focus and Scope

Jurnal Riset Agama is a journal that publishes current original research on religious studies and Islamic studies using an interdisciplinary perspective, especially within Islamic Theology (Ushuluddin) studies and its related teachings resources.
 
The Scope of Jurnal Riset Agama:
  • Religious Studies: Historical, sociological, anthropological, and psychological approaches of religion, comparative study of the doctrines and practices of religions.
  • Islamic Thought: Islamic theological doctrines, Islamic movements, Islamic political thought, Islam and human rights, Islam and Gender, Islam and environmental issues, Islam and contemporary issues.
  • Islamic Philosophy: Early Islamic philosophy, Islamic epistemology, Islamic metaphysics, later Islamic philosophy, Islamic philosophy of science.
  • Quranic Studies: Methods, Quranic exegesis, hermeneutic, Quranic philology, living Quran, Quran digital studies.
  • Hadith Studies: Methods, living Hadith, Hadith studies in the West, Hadith digital studies.
  • Islamic Mysticism: The doctrines and practices, sects and prominent, neo-sufi movements, sufi healing, modern trend of Islamic mysticism.

Peer Review Process

Some policies in the review of Jurnal Riset Agama:

  1. Reviewers will review any submitted paper.
  2. The review process employs a double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa.
  3. In the review process, reviewers consider the correspondence of title, abstract, discussion (findings), and conclusions. Besides, reviewers also examine the novelty, scientific impact, and references used in the paper.

Publication Frequency

Jurnal Riset Agama is published three times a year, in April, August, and December. Articles are published after undergoing a review process and being officially accepted. 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics

Jurnal Riset Agama is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, aligning with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. This commitment ensures the integrity of the academic record and fosters trust among authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.

Duties of Editors

  • Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published, guided by the journal's policies and legal requirements concerning libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

  • Fair Play: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual merit, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

  • Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.

  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts.

  • Promptness: Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or know that prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.

  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and not shared or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

  • Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear and supporting arguments, avoiding personal criticism of the author.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and notify the editor of any substantial similarity between the manuscript under consideration and other published papers.

  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Privileged information obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

Duties of Authors

  • Reporting Standards: Authors should present an accurate account of their research and an objective discussion of its significance, with sufficient detail to allow replication.

  • Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access to such data if practicable.

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure their work is original and properly cite or quote the works or words of others.

  • Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.

  • Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All significant contributors should be listed as co-authors.

  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

  • Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.

By adhering to these ethical guidelines, Jurnal Riset Agama ensures the integrity and quality of its publications, reflecting the journal's commitment to ethical publishing practices.

Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Riset Agama is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism.

  1. Similarity Limit – The maximum similarity score allowed is 20%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the authors for revision.
  2. Plagiarism Screening – All submissions are checked using Turnitin before the review process.
  3. Author Responsibility – Authors must ensure their work is original and properly cited before submission. Any detected plagiarism may result in manuscript rejection or further editorial action.

By submitting to Jurnal Riset Agama, authors acknowledge and agree to comply with this policy.

Retraction and/or Corrections

Authors are discouraged from withdrawing submitted manuscripts after it is in the publication process (review, copyedit, layout, etc.,). During the time, Jurnal Riset Agama had spent valuable resources besides time spent in the process. Should under any circumstances that the author(s) still request for a withdrawal, author(s) should pay back every effort put into the manuscript processes at an amount of IDR 1.000.000 ($61). Paid upon official request from the author(s) in an email sent to Jurnal Riset Agama editor using the same email address used in correspondence.
 
Jurnal Riset Agama editors shall consider retracting a publication if:
  • They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of a major error (eg, miscalculation or experimental error) or as a result of fabrication (eg, of data) or falsification (eg, image manipulation);
  • It constitutes plagiarism;
  • The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper attribution to previous sources or disclosure to the editor, permission to republish, or justification (ie, cases of redundant publication);
  • It contains material or data without authorisation for use;
  • Copyright has been infringed or there is some other serious legal issue (eg, libel, privacy);
  • It reports unethical research;
  • It has been published solely based on a compromised or manipulated peer review process;
  • The author(s) failed to disclose a major competing interest (a.k.a. conflict of interest) that, in the view of the editor, would have unduly affected interpretations of the work or recommendations by editors and peer reviewers.
Jurnal Riset Agama editors shall consider issuing a correction if:
 
  • a small portion of an otherwise reliable publication proves to be misleading (especially because of honest error);
  • the author/contributor list is incorrect (i.e. a deserving author has been omitted or somebody who does not meet authorship criteria has been included);

It is understood that all authors are responsible for the content of their submitted paper as they all read and understand Jurnal Riset Agama's Copyright and Licensing Terms. If a penalty is imposed for plagiarism, all authors will be subject to the same penalty.

The mechanism follows the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
