About the Journal

Priangan: Journal of Islamic Sundanese Culture is an open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to the history of Islamic civilization in Sundanese society. It is published by the Department of Islamic Civilization History, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, and has been in publication since 2022. (ISSN: 2962-5297)

Focus. The journal examines how Islam has shaped, and been shaped by, Sundanese cultural, intellectual, and social life, from the earliest periods of Islamization to the present day. Its focus on the historical encounter between Islam and Sundanese civilization in the Priangan region of West Java and beyond distinguishes it from broader Islamic studies journals and from general Sundanese cultural studies journals.

Scope. Priangan publishes original research on four themes: Islamization and socio-religious transformation in Tatar Sunda; Sundanese Islamic intellectual traditions, including ulama networks, pesantren, and manuscript heritage; cultural expressions of Islamic Sundanese civilization, such as rituals, oral traditions, architecture, and performing arts; and historiography and methodology in the study of Sundanese Islamic history. The journal is grounded in history but welcomes multidisciplinary work from philology, anthropology, sociology, art history, cultural studies, literary studies, and Islamic studies.

Readership. Priangan serves researchers, lecturers, and students in universities and higher education institutions, as well as policymakers, cultural administrators, and general readers interested in the history and culture of the Sundanese world.

Publication. The journal is published twice a year, in June and December, in Indonesian or English. Each manuscript undergoes double-blind review by at least two reviewers and a similarity check with Turnitin, with a maximum similarity of 25%. Priangan follows recognized standards of publication ethics and uses Mendeley for reference management.

Open access and fees. All content is freely available immediately upon publication. The journal charges no submission fee and no publication fee.
