Conflict of Interest

KUBIK: Jurnal Publikasi Ilmiah Matematika is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, impartiality, and integrity throughout the scholarly publication process. The journal requires all individuals involved in manuscript submission, peer review, and editorial decision-making to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence their professional judgment.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and other individuals involved in the publication process.

1. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest occurs when financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationships may influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the objectivity, integrity, or impartiality of research and publication decisions.

Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Financial Interests: Research funding, employment, consultancy fees, honoraria, patents, investments, or other financial relationships related to the research.

  2. Personal Relationships: Family relationships, close friendships, personal disputes, or other relationships that may influence professional judgment.

  3. Professional and Academic Interests: Research collaborations, academic competition, supervisory relationships, or professional affiliations that could affect impartiality.

  4. Institutional Interests: Relationships with institutions or organizations that may benefit from the publication or rejection of particular research findings.

  5. Intellectual Interests: Strong academic or theoretical positions that may interfere with the objective evaluation of research.

The existence of a conflict of interest does not necessarily indicate unethical conduct. However, transparent disclosure is essential to maintaining trust in scholarly communication.

2. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors submitting manuscripts to KUBIK must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest related to their research.

Authors are required to:

  • Declare relevant financial and non-financial relationships that could influence the research.

  • Disclose funding sources and explain the role of sponsors, where applicable.

  • Ensure that financial or institutional relationships do not compromise research independence or the accuracy of reported findings.

  • Inform the editorial office if any relevant conflicts of interest arise or become apparent during the publication process.

  • Include a Conflict of Interest statement in the submitted manuscript.

If no conflicts of interest exist, authors should explicitly state:

"The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of this article."

If conflicts of interest exist, authors must clearly describe the nature of those relationships and their potential relevance to the research.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, independent, and unbiased evaluations of manuscripts.

Before accepting a review assignment, reviewers must disclose any circumstances that may affect their impartiality, including:

  • Personal or professional relationships with the authors.

  • Recent or ongoing research collaborations with the authors.

  • Financial or institutional interests related to the research.

  • Direct academic competition or other circumstances that may influence the review.

  • Any other actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.

Reviewers must decline or withdraw from reviewing a manuscript when a conflict of interest could compromise their objectivity.

Reviewers must also maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and must not use unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.

4. Responsibilities of Editors and Editorial Board Members

Editors and editorial board members must ensure that editorial decisions are based solely on the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and academic merit of submitted manuscripts.

Editors must disclose any conflicts of interest that may arise from financial, personal, professional, or institutional relationships with the authors or their research.

An editor who has a conflict of interest involving a particular manuscript must withdraw from its editorial assessment and decision-making process.

The manuscript must be assigned to another qualified editor who has no relevant conflict of interest.

Manuscripts submitted by editors, editorial board members, or individuals closely associated with the journal must undergo an independent editorial and peer-review process. Individuals with relevant conflicts of interest must not participate in selecting reviewers or making editorial decisions concerning their own submissions.

5. Disclosure and Management of Conflicts of Interest

KUBIK requires conflicts of interest to be disclosed as early as possible during manuscript submission, peer review, or editorial evaluation.

When a conflict of interest is identified, the editorial team will assess its nature and potential influence on the publication process.

Depending on the circumstances, appropriate measures may include:

  1. Requesting additional information or clarification from the individual concerned.

  2. Requiring a formal declaration of the relevant conflict of interest.

  3. Assigning an alternative reviewer or editor.

  4. Excluding individuals with significant conflicts of interest from particular editorial decisions.

  5. Requesting revisions to the manuscript's Conflict of Interest statement.

  6. Taking further editorial action when undisclosed conflicts threaten the integrity of the publication process.

Editorial decisions will be made fairly, transparently, and consistently with relevant publication ethics guidelines.

6. Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest

Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may constitute a violation of publication ethics.

If an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified before publication, the journal may request clarification, reassess the manuscript, or take other appropriate editorial action.

If an undisclosed conflict is discovered after publication, KUBIK will evaluate its significance and potential impact on the published research.

Depending on the findings, the journal may publish a correction, issue an Expression of Concern, or take other appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance.

7. Conflict of Interest Statement in Published Articles

KUBIK requires a clear Conflict of Interest declaration from authors.

The declaration should be included in the manuscript under the heading:

Conflict of Interest

Authors who have no conflicts of interest should use the following statement:

"The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of this article."

Authors with relevant conflicts of interest must provide a clear and accurate description of those interests.

Disclosures of funding support should also be provided in the appropriate Funding or Acknowledgments section, where applicable.

8. Compliance with Publication Ethics Guidelines

KUBIK follows relevant recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) concerning the identification, disclosure, and management of conflicts of interest.

The journal is committed to promoting transparency, preventing bias, and maintaining the credibility and independence of its editorial and peer-review processes.
