AI Usage Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

Guidelines on the responsible use of AI tools for authors, editors, and reviewers

Jurnal Prestise recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic research and publishing. In accordance with the Directorate General of Science and Technology Regulation No. 374/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 regarding Technical Guidelines for Scientific Journal Accreditation, this policy establishes clear rules for the use of AI tools by Authors, Editors, and Reviewers.

General Principles

The use of AI tools must uphold academic integrity, transparency, originality, accuracy, confidentiality, and responsible research practices. AI tools may support scholarly work but must not replace human intellectual responsibility, critical judgment, or accountability. All individuals involved in the publication process remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of their work and decisions.

AI Use by Authors

Authors may use AI tools to support activities such as language editing, grammar correction, translation, idea organization, coding assistance, and data analysis, provided that such use is appropriate, transparent, and consistent with research ethics.

Authors must comply with the following requirements:

  1. Disclosure: Authors must disclose any substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in preparing their manuscript. The disclosure should identify the tool used and explain its purpose. Routine spelling, grammar, and formatting assistance need not be disclosed unless otherwise required by the journal.
  2. Human responsibility: Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted, including text, references, data, calculations, interpretations, tables, figures, and conclusions, whether produced independently or with AI assistance.
  3. Accuracy and verification: Authors must carefully verify AI-generated or AI-assisted content. AI-generated references, citations, quotations, facts, and statistical results must be checked against reliable original sources. Fabricated or unverifiable information must not be included.
  4. Originality and plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and do not plagiarize or improperly reproduce the work, ideas, or expressions of others. AI use does not exempt authors from proper citation, attribution, and compliance with copyright and intellectual property requirements.
  5. Research data and methods: Authors must not use AI to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, findings, images, or analytical results. Any AI-assisted research procedure that materially affects the methodology or findings should be described sufficiently for readers to understand its role.
  6. Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or meet the obligations of authorship.
  7. Confidentiality and privacy: Authors must not upload confidential, sensitive, personal, or otherwise restricted information to AI services unless they have appropriate authorization and the use complies with applicable privacy, ethical, and data-protection requirements.

Authors must include an AI Usage Statement in their manuscript when disclosure is required. The statement should describe the tools used and the nature of their contribution. If no AI tools were used, authors may state: “The authors declare that no AI tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript.”

AI Use by Editors

Editors may use AI tools for appropriate administrative or editorial support, such as organizing submissions, improving routine communications, or assisting with preliminary language checks. However, AI must not replace editorial judgment or decision-making.

Editors must:

  1. Retain full responsibility for editorial decisions, including desk rejection, reviewer selection, revision requests, and acceptance or rejection.
  2. Evaluate manuscripts based on scholarly quality, relevance, originality, ethical compliance, and the journal’s publication standards.
  3. Protect manuscript confidentiality and avoid entering unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author identities, or other confidential editorial information into AI tools without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
  4. Verify any AI-assisted output before relying on it in editorial decisions or communications.
  5. Avoid making allegations of plagiarism, misconduct, or AI misuse solely on the basis of AI-detection software or automated assessments. Any concerns must be evaluated carefully using appropriate evidence and established editorial procedures.
  6. Disclose the use of AI when required by the journal or when its use materially affects an editorial process, in accordance with applicable policies.

AI Use by Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers may use AI tools for limited assistance with general language support or the organization of their own review notes, provided that confidentiality and the integrity of peer review are maintained.

Peer reviewers must:

  1. Independently assess the manuscript’s originality, methodology, evidence, analysis, interpretation, and contribution to the field.
  2. Not upload or disclose unpublished manuscripts, supplementary files, author information, or confidential review materials to public or third-party AI tools unless expressly authorized and adequately protected.
  3. Not delegate the substantive evaluation of a manuscript or the preparation of confidential reviewer reports to AI tools in a manner that compromises independent expert judgment or confidentiality.
  4. Verify all AI-assisted observations and recommendations before including them in a review report.
  5. Not use AI-generated assessments as the sole basis for recommending acceptance, revision, or rejection.
  6. Inform the editor if AI use materially contributes to the preparation of a review, where disclosure is required by the journal.

Prohibited Uses of AI

The following practices are prohibited:

  • Listing AI tools as authors or co-authors.
  • Fabricating or falsifying data, references, citations, research findings, images, or other scholarly content.
  • Submitting AI-generated content as original human work when disclosure is required or when doing so misrepresents the actual research process.
  • Using AI to plagiarize, conceal unattributed copying, or circumvent the journal’s publication ethics requirements.
  • Uploading confidential or sensitive information to AI tools without proper authorization and safeguards.
  • Using AI-generated assessments as a substitute for the independent scholarly judgment of editors or reviewers.
  • Using AI tools to manipulate peer review, impersonate individuals, or misrepresent contributions and research procedures.

Disclosure and Editorial Assessment

The journal may request clarification regarding the use of AI at any stage of submission, peer review, or publication. Authors must provide accurate information about the use of AI tools when requested.

Failure to disclose substantive AI use, inaccurate declarations, or misuse of AI may result in a request for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, or other appropriate editorial action. For published articles, the journal may consider correction, retraction, or other measures where warranted by the evidence and consistent with its publication ethics procedures.

AI-detection tools, if used, are not conclusive evidence of misconduct and must not be used as the sole basis for editorial decisions.

Policy Review

Jurnal Prestise may update this policy in response to developments in AI technology, scholarly publishing standards, and applicable regulations. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to comply with the version of the policy applicable to their submission or editorial activity.

By submitting or handling a manuscript for Jurnal Prestise, all participants in the publication process are expected to uphold transparency, academic integrity, confidentiality, and human accountability in the use of AI.
