Authorship Criteria and Contributions

Authorship Criteria and Author Contributions

TEMALI: Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial

1. General Principles of Authorship

TEMALI: Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial is committed to promoting transparency, fairness, accountability, and integrity in scholarly authorship. The journal recognizes authorship as both an acknowledgment of substantial intellectual contributions and an acceptance of responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of published research.

The journal's authorship policy is informed by the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the publication ethics principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

All individuals listed as authors must have made genuine scholarly contributions to the manuscript. Authorship must not be granted or denied on the basis of academic rank, institutional position, seniority, funding authority, or personal relationships.

2. Authorship Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for authorship, each individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial intellectual contribution: Making substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.

  2. Manuscript preparation or critical review: Drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final manuscript approval: Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript intended for publication.

  4. Accountability and research integrity: Agreeing to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be fulfilled. Individuals who make substantial research contributions must be given a reasonable opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation, critical review, and final approval.

All individuals who satisfy the authorship criteria must be appropriately listed as authors. Contributors who do not satisfy all four criteria should be acknowledged rather than included as authors.

3. Author Contributions and CRediT Taxonomy

TEMALI: Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial requires transparency regarding the contributions of individual authors. Authors must provide an accurate statement describing their respective roles in the research and manuscript preparation.

The journal adopts the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) as a standardized framework for identifying scholarly contributions.

The following 14 contributor roles may be used:

  1. Conceptualization: Formulating or developing the research ideas and objectives.

  2. Methodology: Designing or developing the research methodology.

  3. Software: Developing, implementing, or maintaining software used in the research.

  4. Validation: Verifying the reproducibility or accuracy of research results.

  5. Formal Analysis: Applying analytical techniques to interpret or synthesize research data.

  6. Investigation: Conducting research activities, including data collection and fieldwork.

  7. Resources: Providing research materials, data access, or other essential resources.

  8. Data Curation: Managing, organizing, documenting, and preserving research data.

  9. Writing – Original Draft: Preparing the initial manuscript.

  10. Writing – Review & Editing: Critically reviewing, revising, and improving the manuscript.

  11. Visualization: Preparing figures, diagrams, or other visual representations.

  12. Supervision: Providing oversight and intellectual guidance for the research.

  13. Project Administration: Coordinating and managing research activities.

  14. Funding Acquisition: Obtaining financial support for the research.

An author may undertake multiple roles, and individual roles may be shared among several authors. All authors must review and approve the contribution statement before publication.

The assignment of CRediT roles does not automatically establish authorship eligibility. Every listed author must independently satisfy the authorship criteria described in Section 2.

Example of an Author Contributions Statement

Author A: Conceptualization, Methodology, Investigation, Formal Analysis, Writing – Original Draft.

Author B: Data Curation, Investigation, Validation, Writing – Review & Editing.

Author C: Supervision, Methodology, Writing – Review & Editing.

All authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agree to be accountable for its content.

4. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication between the authors and the editorial team throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication.

The corresponding author must ensure that:

The corresponding author must not add, remove, or rearrange authors without the knowledge and agreement of all affected individuals.

5. Author Order and Equal Contributions

The order of authorship must be determined collectively by the authors according to their scholarly contributions and mutual agreement.

The journal does not automatically recognize academic seniority, institutional position, or administrative authority as justification for first authorship or corresponding authorship.

Where two or more authors have made equivalent contributions, an equal-contribution statement may be included in the manuscript, subject to editorial approval.

Any disagreement concerning author order should be resolved among the authors before manuscript submission.

6. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contribute to a research project but do not meet all authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Such contributions may include:

Authors should specify the nature of the contributions and obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgments section.

Acknowledgment must not be used to conceal individuals whose contributions qualify them for authorship.

7. Unethical Authorship Practices

TEMALI: Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial prohibits inappropriate authorship practices, including:

Gift Authorship: Granting authorship to individuals who have not made qualifying scholarly contributions.

Guest Authorship: Including individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility, reputation, or acceptance prospects of a manuscript.

Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who have made qualifying contributions to the research or manuscript.

Coercive Authorship: Pressuring researchers to include individuals as authors because of institutional authority, academic hierarchy, or personal influence.

Unauthorized Authorship Changes: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors without appropriate disclosure and agreement.

Suspected authorship misconduct may result in requests for clarification, editorial investigation, manuscript rejection, or appropriate post-publication action.

8. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or change the order of authors after manuscript submission must be submitted to the editorial office with:

  1. A written explanation of the proposed change.

  2. An updated author contributions statement, where applicable.

  3. Written agreement from all existing authors and any individuals being added or removed.

Authorship changes are subject to editorial review and approval.

Changes requested after manuscript acceptance or publication may require additional investigation. Where appropriate, the journal may publish a correction or take other editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.

9. Authorship Disputes

Authors are expected to resolve questions concerning authorship eligibility, contribution, and author order before submitting their manuscripts.

If a dispute arises, the editorial team may request relevant documentation, including contribution statements, correspondence, and written agreements.

Where disputes cannot be resolved among the contributors, the matter should be referred to the relevant affiliated institution or research integrity office for investigation.

The journal may suspend editorial consideration while an unresolved authorship dispute is being investigated.

The editorial team does not act as the final arbiter of competing authorship claims and may take appropriate action based on verified findings and applicable publication ethics guidance.

10. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including generative AI tools and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly accuracy, originality, research integrity, or publication accountability.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal, including material developed with AI assistance.

Authors must disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies when such tools have contributed to manuscript preparation, research procedures, data analysis, or the generation of research content.

The disclosure should identify the tool used and explain the nature and purpose of its use. AI-assisted writing should be disclosed in an appropriate acknowledgment or declaration, whereas AI use directly related to research methods or data analysis should be described in the methodology section.

Authors must verify the accuracy of AI-assisted content, references, quotations, and interpretations and ensure that its use does not compromise originality, confidentiality, or research integrity.

AI-generated information must not be presented as independently verified research evidence.

11. Author Declaration and Accountability

By submitting a manuscript to TEMALI: Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial, all authors confirm that:

  1. They meet the journal's authorship eligibility criteria.

  2. Their contributions have been accurately represented.

  3. They have approved the submitted manuscript.

  4. They agree with the stated author order.

  5. They accept responsibility for the integrity of their respective contributions and the published work.

  6. They have disclosed relevant conflicts of interest, funding information, and AI-assisted contributions where applicable.

  7. The manuscript complies with the journal's publication ethics policies.

The editorial team reserves the right to request clarification or supporting documentation regarding authorship and author contributions when necessary.
