Abstract

One of the challenges in contemporary Islamic preaching in Indonesia is the emergence of movements that implement amar ma’ruf nahi munkar through controversial methods. This study focuses on the Islamic Defenders Front (Front Pembela Islam/FPI), a group that actively promotes moral enforcement while often facing public criticism for its confrontational approach. The research aims to analyze the history, vision, and role of FPI in implementing amar ma’ruf nahi munkar as a form of da’wah activity. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and field observations in Cijulang Village, where FPI conducts religious and social activities. The population consisted of FPI members and local residents, with a purposive sample of ten FPI members and five community representatives. The research seeks to understand how FPI performs its da’wah mission and how the community perceives its presence. Findings reveal that while FPI’s da’wah aims to strengthen Islamic values, its confrontational methods often trigger social tension. The study concludes that FPI needs to adopt a more persuasive and educational da’wah approach to align its religious goals with social harmony, promoting an inclusive and peaceful Islamic movement in Indonesia.
