The Effect of the Jarimatika Method on the Numeracy Skills of 4–5-Year-Old Children at TK Islam Al-Furqan Minasa Upa Makassar
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the Jarimatika method on the development of numeracy skills in children aged 4–5 years at TK Islam Al-Furqan Minasa Upa Makassar. Numeracy skills in early childhood are a fundamental aspect in building a comprehensive understanding of mathematics during later stages of development. The Jarimatika method is a finger-counting technique designed to help children understand number concepts and arithmetic operations in a concrete and enjoyable way. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, consisting of two groups: the experimental and control groups. The study involved 20 children as subjects. The Wilcoxon 2-tailed test result was 0.005 < 0.05, which means that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the Jarimatika method has a positive effect on the development of numeracy skills in children aged 4–5 years. This method can serve as an effective and enjoyable alternative for teaching basic mathematics in early childhood education institutions.
