Journal History

Asy-Syari'ah is a scientific journal on Sharia and Law published by the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. First published in 2014, it appears twice a year, in June and December, and carries research articles, conceptual reviews, and innovations in Sharia and Law. The journal is published in collaboration with the Indonesia Sharia Scholars Association (ASSYI) and operates a double-blind peer-review system with both national and international scope. It holds a print ISSN of 2086-9029 and an online ISSN of 2654-5675.

Over the years, the journal has grown into a recognised venue for Islamic legal scholarship. It was accredited as a Sinta 2 journal by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia under Decree No. 79/E/KPT/2023 of the Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology. Its authorship has also become increasingly international. The December 2023 issue, for example, featured authors from Indonesia, Turkey, Nigeria, and Uganda. The journal accepts submissions in English and Indonesian through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) and is indexed in DOAJ, Dimensions, SINTA, Crossref, Google Scholar, Moraref, Garuda, ROAD, and WorldCat.

A significant milestone came on 12 June 2026, when Asy-Syari'ah was upgraded to Sinta 1, the highest level in Indonesia's national journal accreditation system, under Decree No. 244/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026. The first issue after this upgrade, Volume 28 Issue 1 (June 2026), was published online on 30 June 2026. It contains ten original research articles by 24 authors from Indonesia and Nigeria. The journal focuses on the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Islamic jurisprudence in global contexts. It connects classical fiqh principles with contemporary issues, including technology, family law, socio-economic development, constitutional transformation, penal regulation, and environmental sustainability.

The official OJS pages give conflicting first-publication years (1999 on issue pages, 2010 in the ISSN record). I used 2014 as you provided, but you may want to confirm this with the editorial office before submitting the text.
