Abstract

This study investigates EFL Students’ perceptions of using Instagram captions as reading material in Extensive Reading activities. Motivated by students’ low interest and motivation in reading English texts, often seen as difficult and unengaging, the study explores Instagram as a more accessible and relatable medium. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from eight fourth-semester students in an English Language Education program through questionnaires, interviews, and supporting documentation. The findings reveal generally positive perceptions, influenced by internal factors such as motivation, emotional responses, and personal experience, as well as external factors like caption clarity and digital environment. Instagram captions are perceived as interesting, relevant, and easy to access, suggesting their potential to enhance student engagement in Extensive Reading contexts.
