Guidelines for Hijai's Authors

GUIDELINES FOR HIJAI' AUTHORS

HIJAI: Journal on Arabic Language and Literature accepts original research articles in the fields of Arabic Language and Literature. Authors are strictly required to adhere to these guidelines prior to submitting their manuscripts.

Required Submission Files

When submitting through the Online Submission system (OJS), authors MUST upload three (3) separate files:

  1. Main Article Manuscript (.docx): The complete, anonymized manuscript formatted according to the official HIJAI Article Template (including Title, Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results & Discussion, Conclusion, and References).
  2. Supplementary Data / Research Appendix (.zip / .docx / .xlsx / .pdf): Raw research data, research instruments, interview transcripts, linguistic corpora, or additional visual data supporting the research findings.
  3. Author Declaration & Statement of Originality (.pdf): The fully completed and signed HIJAI Author Declaration & Statement of Originality Form, guaranteeing manuscript originality, consent to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and confirming that the Similarity Index is below 15%.

1. General Requirements & Originality

  • Originality & Plagiarism Screening: Manuscripts must be original and not currently under evaluation by any other publisher. All submissions undergo plagiarism screening using Turnitin/iThenticate with a maximum allowable Similarity Index of less than 15%.
  • Language Policy: The manuscript body may be written in Indonesian, English, or Arabic. However, the Title, Abstract, and Keywords on the FIRST PAGE MUST be written in ENGLISH regardless of the primary language of the article.
  • Word Count & Page Formatting: Manuscripts should range between 3,500 and 5,000 words (including tables, figures, and references). Typed on A4 paper with 2.54 cm margins, using Arial 11 pt font and single line spacing (1.0).

2. Manuscript Structure

  • First Page (ENGLISH MANDATORY): Regardless of the manuscript's primary language, the Title (max 10 words, bold), Abstract (100–150 words), and Keywords (3–5 terms) on the first page MUST be written in ENGLISH.
  • Main Manuscript Body (Indonesian, English, or Arabic): The main body of the article (Introduction, Method, Results & Discussion, Conclusion, and References) may be written in Indonesian, English, or Arabic with the following required structure:
    • Introduction: Outlines the research background, research gap, conceptual framework, State of the Art (relevant prior literature), scientific novelty, and explicit research objectives.
    • Method: Describes in a clear, systematic, and reproducible manner the research design, data sources/corpus, data collection techniques, instruments, and analytical framework.
    • Results & Discussion:
      • Results: MUST feature visual data representing main research findings (Tables, Charts/Diagrams, Infographics, or Mind Mapping). All visuals must be sequentially numbered and titled.
      • Discussion: MUST interpret, analyze, and thoroughly discuss the visual data presented in the Results section, connecting findings to relevant theories and previous studies.
    • Conclusion: A concise synthesis directly answering the research objectives, accompanied by theoretical/practical implications and recommendations for future research. Avoid raw statistical figures or tables.
    • References: Prepared using reference management software (Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote) following APA Style. At least 80% of references must be primary sources (reputable scientific journals/proceedings) published within the last 10 years.

3. Copyright, Licensing & Open Access

  • Open Access Policy: All published articles are immediately and freely accessible to the public upon publication.
  • Copyright Retention: Authors retain full copyright and publishing rights without restriction.
  • Licensing: Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
