Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Varia Hukum follows the COPE Core Practice on authorship and contributorship. Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contribution and accountability for the work. All listed authors must satisfy the journal’s own authorship standard, adapted from the ICMJE criteria for law and the social sciences and humanities. Each author must:

  1. make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data and legal materials;
  2. draft the manuscript or revise it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. approve the final version; and
  4. agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

The journal requires a contributorship statement using the CRediT taxonomy. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged, with their permission where appropriate. Guest, gift, honorary, and ghost authorship are not acceptable. Administrative position, general supervision, funding acquisition, or routine data collection alone does not automatically justify authorship unless the journal’s adopted standard is otherwise satisfied. The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal, confirmation that all authors approve the submission, accurate author details, and timely coordination of responses. Corresponding-author status does not by itself signify greater scholarly contribution.
