Publication ethics
The Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia. JIEB is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct throughout the scholarly publication process.
This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal follows internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and is guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
1. Editorial Responsibilities
Editorial Independence and Publication Decisions
Editorial decisions are based solely on the scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, relevance, and contribution of a manuscript to the scope of JIEB. Decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are made independently by the editorial team and are not influenced by commercial, institutional, personal, or other external interests.
The Editor-in-Chief and handling editors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts undergo an appropriate editorial and peer-review process before a final publication decision is made.
Fair and Impartial Evaluation
Submitted manuscripts are evaluated on their academic content without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, religious belief, institutional affiliation, political orientation, or other personal characteristics of the authors.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all information associated with the review process. Information concerning a manuscript may only be disclosed to individuals directly involved in its evaluation and publication.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors must disclose and avoid any conflict of interest that could compromise, or reasonably be perceived to compromise, their impartiality. An editor with a personal, professional, financial, institutional, or collaborative relationship that may affect the evaluation of a manuscript should not participate in the editorial decision concerning that manuscript.
Unpublished materials contained in submitted manuscripts must not be used for an editor's own research or other purposes without the explicit permission of the authors.
2. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer reviewers assist editors in evaluating the scientific quality, originality, validity, relevance, and contribution of submitted manuscripts. Constructive reviewer comments are also intended to assist authors in improving the quality and clarity of their work.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, distribute, reproduce, or use information obtained through the peer-review process for personal or professional advantage.
Objectivity and Professional Conduct
Reviews should be conducted objectively, critically, and respectfully. Comments should focus on the scholarly content of the manuscript. Personal criticism, discriminatory remarks, hostile language, or comments unrelated to the academic quality of the manuscript are inappropriate.
Competence and Timeliness
Reviewers should accept review assignments only when they possess sufficient expertise to evaluate the manuscript. Reviewers who are unable to complete a review within the requested period should promptly inform the editorial office.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, financial, institutional, or personal relationships with the authors or their institutions. Where such a conflict may affect impartial judgment, the reviewer should decline the review assignment.
Reviewers should also identify relevant published work that has not been appropriately acknowledged and should inform the editor of any substantial similarity between the manuscript under review and other published or submitted work of which they are aware.
3. Responsibilities of Authors
Originality and Academic Integrity
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work. Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate manipulation of data, citation manipulation, and other forms of research misconduct are unacceptable.
Any ideas, data, text, figures, or other materials derived from the work of others must be appropriately acknowledged and cited.
Multiple, Redundant, or Simultaneous Submission
Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Manuscripts that have already been published, or that substantially duplicate previously published work without appropriate disclosure and justification, will not be considered.
Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the conception or design of the study; acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; drafting or critically revising the manuscript; and approval of the final version.
All listed authors should agree to the submission and publication of the manuscript and accept responsibility for the integrity of their contribution.
Guest, gift, honorary, and ghost authorship are considered unethical publication practices.
Accuracy and Availability of Data
Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the data reported in their manuscripts. Fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation, or intentional misrepresentation of research data is prohibited.
Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors may be requested to provide supporting data or additional information necessary to verify the findings reported in the manuscript.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must appropriately acknowledge all sources that have materially influenced their research. Citations should be relevant and should not be added solely for the purpose of artificially increasing citation counts of particular authors, journals, or publications.
Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure
Authors must disclose financial, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived to influence the research or its interpretation.
Sources of financial support, grants, sponsorship, or other forms of research funding should be clearly acknowledged where applicable.
Fundamental Errors in Published Work
If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published article, they should promptly inform the editorial office and cooperate with the journal in correcting or, where necessary, retracting the article.
4. Research Ethics and Ethical Oversight
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical principles, institutional requirements, and relevant laws and regulations.
Research involving human participants, confidential or sensitive information, or other areas requiring ethical oversight should obtain appropriate ethical approval or informed consent where applicable. Authors may be requested to provide information concerning ethical approval during the editorial process.
The privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights of research participants must be appropriately protected.
5. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
JIEB does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of research and publication misconduct.
Suspected cases of plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other serious ethical concerns may be investigated by the editorial team in accordance with applicable publication-ethics principles and COPE guidance.
Where misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take appropriate action, including rejection of the manuscript, publication of a correction, retraction of a published article, or communication with relevant institutions where necessary.
6. Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Issues
JIEB is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, the journal will evaluate the matter and may issue an appropriate correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction.
Retractions and corrections will be clearly identified and linked to the original publication whenever technically possible so that the scholarly record remains transparent.
7. Complaints and Appeals
Authors may submit a reasoned appeal regarding an editorial decision when they believe that a significant error occurred during the editorial or peer-review process.
Complaints concerning editorial procedures, publication ethics, reviewer conduct, or published content will be considered by the editorial team in an impartial manner. Where appropriate, individuals who were directly involved in the disputed decision should not be solely responsible for resolving the complaint or appeal.
Appeals do not guarantee reconsideration or acceptance of a manuscript. Editorial decisions following the completion of an appeal process are considered final.
8. Publisher Responsibilities
The Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, as the publisher of JIEB, supports the editorial independence of the journal and is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly publication process.
Editorial decisions are not determined by commercial interests, advertising, sponsorship, institutional interests, or other sources of revenue.
The publisher and editorial team will cooperate, where necessary, in addressing ethical concerns and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the journal's published scholarly record.
9. Commitment to Publication Integrity
JIEB recognizes that publication ethics is an ongoing responsibility extending from manuscript submission through peer review, publication, and post-publication evaluation.
Authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher share responsibility for maintaining the credibility of scholarly communication. JIEB therefore reserves the right to investigate ethical concerns at any stage of the publication process and to take appropriate corrective action when necessary.
This policy is guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing developed collaboratively by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.
