A CARL ROGERS LITERARY PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE . HUMANITIC PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT OF THE TEACHER CARACTER IN ALI THANTHAWI’S MIN ṢAMĪM AL-ḤAYĀH

Background: Ali Thanthawi’s Min Shamīm al-Ḥayāh presents psychological and moral conflicts experienced by its main character, the Teacher. However, the character’s personality has received limited attention from a humanistic literary psychology perspective.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the Teacher’s personality structure and its development based on Carl Rogers’ theory.
Method: This qualitative descriptive study employed a literary psychology approach and library research. Data were collected through close reading, note-taking, and translation, then analyzed based on the concepts of Self, Phenomenal Field, and Organism.
Results: The findings show that the Teacher experiences incongruence between his ideal self and real experiences. His subjective experiences and organismic responses shape an internal conflict that leads to self-control and self-actualization.
Conclusion: Carl Rogers’ theory effectively reveals the dynamic development of the Teacher’s personality and contributes a humanistic perspective to the study of modern Arabic literature.
